More Foreign NGOs Register in Yunnan, Sichuan, Shanghai and Guangdong

China Development Brief's English-language website came out last month with more news about the implementation of the Overseas NGOs in Yunnan, Shanghai, Sichuan and Guangdong where more ONGOs succeeded in registering a representative office.

CDB also has created A Simple Guide to the Overseas NGO Law here

Up to around the middle of April, the Ministry of Public Security website has recorded a total of 69 representative offices registered by 62 OGNOs. Of the 62, five had registered a representative office in more than one province.

I used the MPS list to create a table of the ONGOs based on the date and province in which they registered. The table shows that the largest number of ONGOs registered in Beijing followed by Shanghai and Guangdong. These three provincial units were also the earliest to register ONGOs. Almost all the other provinces such as Yunnan and Jiangsu did not register ONGOs until April when another large cohort of ONGOs managed to register. These numbers suggest that it's taking other provinces more time to get their staff and offices up and running, and that we will see more ONGOs registering after April.
